Craig Paxton- Professional Biographyis a principal in Cattaneo & Stroud, Inc. His areas of specialization include health care market demand analysis, cost effectiveness analysis, software development, and forecasting. Recent assignments include analysis of inappropriate use of emergency room services, managing the development of a managed care clinical reporting system for a large health plan, developing and implementing a data strategy for marketing pharmaceutical services, forecasting demand for services by patients with cystic fibrosis following state mandated newborn screening as well as critiquing the statistical validity of a regulator's negative assessment of a large California hospital's quality of care, and development of a mortality risk calculation for CABG surgeries. In addition, Craig has developed a PC-based stand alone system to analyze pharmaceutical interchanges. Prior to joining Cattaneo & Stroud, Craig worked for McKesson Corporation, where he joined a small group of employees and consultants to develop a corporate strategic plan for the hospital and health plan market. Later, as an independent consultant, he returned to help create a major component of that strategic plan. Craig was also senior economist at Kaiser Permanente, Northern California for six years. There, he introduced statistical methods of demand analysis to membership forecasting and policy evaluation, and monitored market conditions on a monthly basis. Building on successes in modeling member dynamics in Northern California, he advised other Kaiser Permanente regions on similar approaches. In addition, he has worked as an independent consultant to a financial firm in the capital markets area, to a litigation team in an anti-trust case and as an analyst on transit and energy demand studies. Craig received his Ph.D. in economics from Northwestern University in 1987. While in graduate school, he specialized in econometrics, finance and analysis of industry structure. He completed his Bachelor of Science Degree at Santa Clara University, and spent a semester at the London School of Economics.
